Today I got to see and meet Wil Wheaton at the Mysterious Galaxy bookstore in a section of San Diego called “Clairmont Mesa.” It was totally rad. Due to insane traffic, Wil and his wife Anne arrived there around an hour late, but nobody cared because we love them too much.
Wil read a couple of selections from his recently-released Just a Geek, and we were all rapt in his story-telling. Then there was an enlightening Q&A session that ended with a dude sitting next to me asking what Wil thought about this quote from the TrekWeb review of his book:
More than just the standard entertainer’s autobiography, and more than just a reprinted collection of his “blog” entries, Wheaton brings forth his candid honesty and humor about the joys and the pitfalls of celebrity fame in general and STAR TREK in particular, while at the same time discovering what he had inside to overcome the pitfalls and build a life beyond the confines of Hollywood trappings, to become a successful “blogger”, web site designer, writer, humorist, husband, father, and man.
Beyond the comments that he already expressed in his own blog entry here, Wil was totally appreciative of this official Star Trek source for the glowing review — even admitting to shedding a few tears of joy for the wonderful feeling of validation it gave him.
Not only is he a sensitive dude, but he is totally funny. Us fans were seriously laughing the whole time, and other oxymoronic descriptions about our reactions to his awesomeness ensued, as well. It was such a fun time.
And now for a few pictures!

Here is Wil reading from his book Just a Geek.

Wil telling a story– being funny as always.

Reading from the first chapter called “Where’s my Burrito?”

Thanking the workers of the Mysterious Galaxy for making today happen and for opening up a few doors to him with the San Diego Comic-Con.

Using his hands to describe events at Hooters. No, actually, he’s just telling another story here towards the end of the session. There are sections of his book that have to do with Hooters, however. You’ll just have to read his book to find out!

Calling on a fan to ask him a question.

Wil emotes: his “no, seriously guys” look.

Yes, that’s me with Wil Wheaton.
I thanked him for writing such a rad book. He wondered where I got the shirt that I am wearing above, and I told him that thinkgeek, in this shirt, was serving up “the perfect blend of geek and non-proliferation.” To this he replied, “totally.”
