Once

Last night, Tiana and I watched the brilliant movie Once, which may be one of the most stunning movies I’ve seen in a while. Absolutely great music and a good story. I won’t say too much more about it except to point out something weird that I noticed while returning this movie to Blockbuster this morning: the movie cover is a bit different from the soundtrack album cover:

DVD movie cover:

CD soundtrack cover:

Notice anything different about the content of the image?

Here, the collector’s edition soundtrack actually conceals the bit in question:

I highly, highly recommend watching this movie. But their confused marketing actually obscures the trajectory of the entire plot! Which is which I’ll leave up to you.

One Response to “Once”

  1. Your claim that the third photo “conceals the bit in question” leads me to believe that you are drawing attention to the fact that his sweater sleeve is not exposed on his left wrist on the soundtrack cover. Seeing as how the two photos are completely different instances in time (see their foot position) this is hardly a surprise. A simple readjustment of the coat, a new take walking down the street, and VOILA! you’ve got small differences like that.

I wonder if you noticed, instead, that his scarf is of a different color. Either Photoshopped, or a real-life wardrobe change mid-shoot, I think it’s interesting that the soundtrack producers liked him in orange, whereas the films distributors liked him in green.
