End of a Vehicular Era

Thank you, Grandma, for selling me your 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera back in 2001.  It served me well for the past seven years.  Today, I had to have it towed as the transmission recently died, and it would cost far more than the car is currently worth to repair or replace it.  So, with Tiana and I moving to England for three years soon, I had to say “good-bye” today and sold it to a pick-n-pull for parts.

Good bye, Ol’ Blue.  You took me to many Santana’s for a veggie burrito and you also drove me to my wedding.  You even stayed in one piece when I put you in reverse at 70mph on the 805 freeway.  May you rest in pieces in other people’s cars as parts from here on out.

Peace & Grace,

Eric

awww… this made me cry! Thanks for sharing Eric! I have fond memories of aLL my old cars. In fact this inspires me to do a photo collage of all my cars through the years… :-) I know your grandma will appreciate this. Hugs, Mom R.

  • NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! Not the Cutlass!!!!! Good times in that car - trips to Julian for delicious pie, the ceiling fabric that continually hung in your face with 94.9 blaring on the factory installed stereo. I still wish I had bought you that license plate frame that said “Grandma bought it and I got it”.

  • I know, huh. We had good times in there for sure. It’s really weird to get rid of something like this. They paid me $50 and towed it for free, at least.

Oh memories! I’ll never forget that downshift that turned out to actually be reverse!

  • Rusty, actually, the blinker light was on for too long and so it was making that your-blinker-light-is-on-too-long sound, so when I went to turn off the blinker, I used the wrong arm and put it in reverse. So yes, it was way more stupid of me than just trying to put it in a lower gear; bad body dyslexia or something.

    “I’m sorry, I’m sorry.”

“Why are you saying that, it’s your car?!”

Hahah! I still don’t know how it managed to be just fine after that.
